He hated every single second of it. It wasn‘t the unknowing, or the mystery. No, it was the fact they had needed to go through the cemetery. That had put him almost completely on edge, and he had even been tempted to run the moment that the mausoleum door had opened, but he hadn‘t. He wasn‘t going to be known as the one that ran away. Instead he had walked in, albeit slowly, and found himself somewhere he shouldn‘t be. He felt it in his very core that this wasn‘t a place anyone should tread.
Masaru’s dulled crimson gaze swept over the room he had found himself in, noticing several thing. Scattered over the walls were several pieces of art, simple sketched. Each of them was his own. The sweeping lifeless deserts, the broken family portraits, all of them stared back at him. The room itself was constricting, the dark melody of his nightmares rolling from an old fashioned music player. The walls were simple black, the white of the drawings contrasting. He could see a door out the corner of his eye, but he was still focused on the drawings. Haunting memories of the past, but none more so than the simple one smack bang in the centre of the wall. One that unless you looked closely, you wouldn’t even realize what it was.
It was him. Not the him of the present day, of the now, but the him way back when the world around him had gotten all too much, and he had broken down. He could even see the faint line of red over his wrist from the first time he had tried it. Tried to take his own life in the safety of his room. But, as he stared at the picture, he felt himself moving closer. Why was he drawn to that picture? It was then he became aware the picture in front of was changing slowly. More lines of red spread across his arms, and then they became so much worse. Scratches on his face, tears on his clothing. Why was it happening? What the hell was going on?
“ What, can‘t stand seeing what you couldn‘t do?” The voice came from behind him, but it was so familiar that he thought he had spoken aloud for a moment. However, it soon sunk in that he hadn’t spoken, and he turned with a start. What awaited him wasn’t even remotely normal. It was a terrifying sight, one he hadn’t even remotely expected. When had he moved behind a mirror? But, as he looked closer, he became aware it wasn’t a mirror. It wasn’t just a reflection, it was him. Another him. Another him with the most luminous yellow eyes he had ever seen. And they seemed to be staring straight through him as the other him grinned, tilting his head to the side and raising a hand to move in a completely mocking manner. Masaru physically drew back at what he saw.
Long scars spread across the expanse of the other him wrists, completely on show. Not hidden behind the sleeves, bands or gloves Masaru wore for a reason. Wore to hide what he had done in the past. Or, tried to do, as his shadow had just mentioned. His brain was still trying to catch up on why there was another him in the room. Meanwhile, his shadow was moving forward, leaning forward and staring at him like he was reading him. Slowly it began to laugh, just a simple snicker to begin with, but slowly growing into full on laughing. But, it wasn’t one of amusement, it was one of pity and mock.
“ God, why do you still hide everything? Do you even know your real self? Are you that cheerful brat or the depressed wreck? I know ,” Shadow Masaru said, voice calm and brutally uncaring. The real Masaru’s eyes widened, and took a panicked step back when the other him had started to move forward again. Why did he look like him? Why did he sound like him? Panic was completely setting in.
“ W-What? No! H-how could you possibly know me?” Masaru replied, stepping back again, trying to put distance between them. He didn’t feel safe anywhere near those yellow eyes. The other him, why did he seem to know him better than he knew himself? As the other teenager loomed closer, Masaru quickly realized he had backed himself into a corner, and had no way of escaping, or fighting back. But the other him just grinned and laughed again, that condescending and dark chuckle.
“ What, you haven’t realized yet? I’m you! I know you’re nothing but a failure. You’re jealous of anyone that has any slight success, cause obviously you fail at everything. The only time you’re happy is when you think about it all being over, isn’t it?” The shadow said with a harsh grin, casually tracing the scars on his wrist as he mentioned it all be being, before turning around as Masaru looked completely shocked, and then opened his mouth to deny it. “ Oh god, you’re actually thinking about denying it? I suppose that’s understandable, considering you can’t even off yourself right. Maybe Dad was right. Even you can’t realize that, can you? I’m you, but I even know you better than you know yourself ,” The shadow continued, turning around with a sharp grin as he mentioned their father. He was the real thing, why couldn’t the other brat jut accept that? Didn’t he realize he knew himself far better than the ’real’ him did?
“ N-No! You’re not me. I’m not like that! The words slipped from his lips with a completely unknown and unexpected effect. The moment the shadow heard the denial again, he began to laugh. How could he deny him? How could the supposedly ’real’ him not realize how much him he was. God that brat was not the real him. Slowly he began to feel the energy around him shift, the abyss giving him what he needed. The shadow didn’t even want to wait, but soon he felt it.
Masaru’s eyes widened as his shadow began to seemingly dissolve, dark mist enshrouding him before his felt his eyes getting heavy. What was happening to him? All the while, that him that seemed so real and true had been laughing, that dark and almost hysterical laugh, until the dark mist began to lift. As his eyes crashed shut and he hit the floor, the shadow in front of him let out a cold and harsh laugh.
“ I am a Shadow, the true self. Just go kill yourself and let someone that can actually take action in control ,” The shadow all but growled, tilting his head to the side at the lack of a reaction. The shadows skin had turned an alabaster white, all but lifeless, and his crimson eyes had turned sunken. His torso was uncovered completely, showing various cuts and slashes that seemed almost self inflicted, and patches of sunken skin, almost as if it was about to fall off. Meanwhile from the waist down, it was to become more reminiscent of his future persona, if he wasn‘t killed. A horses body, so thin it was all but skin and bones, as well as looking damper than it should. The fur around his ankles hung to the floor, and all in all he was black. Darker than night, with a vapour of black pouring off of him still. With the rhythmic clip clop of hooves, the shadow approached it‘s real form.
Was this the end of it all? Of our little failure? [/style]

This was a place that he detested. It was nothing short of Hell, and he always made it a point to never stay here for any longer than necessary. However, he was here for an important reason tonight, to protect these children from their other selves and help them accept it so that they could help him. Of course, he was the one that led them in here, but they would be better off for it in the long run.
He made his way through the dark tunnel that was the entrance to the Abyss. Most people would have had trouble seeing in the darkness, but Chris wasn't most people. His eyes had no trouble seeing in the darkness. He came to a door and slowly entered it. The Abyss was an odd place. It had no set layout, but generated rooms and tunnels as needed.
Chris stood at the door, watching Masaru confront his other self. It wasn't long before it happened. Masa denied that the shadow was him, and the shadow grew. It was larger and grimmer, taking on the form of a centaur. He watched as the boy fainted, his power being drained by the shadow.
Chris held out his hand, summoning a blade of pure light. It was blinding, just a white barely sword-shaped form. Chris gripped his blade tightly, approaching the shadow slowly. He would need to end this as quickly as he could, there were many others he would need to save.
"Shadow, return to your original form," he said fiercely. He raised his blade high and sliced downward, straight down the middle of the shadow. The light from his blade cut through the darkness, drawing out and destroying the extra power the shadow had collected. The room filled with light, and when it vanished Masaru's shadow had returned to it's original appearance.
Chris released his grip on his blade, making it dissolve immediately. He walked over to Masaru, shaking him gently, and helping him to stand back up. He was sure that he had almost no energy left, facing one's shadow was a strenuous task. "You must accept this shadow as part of yourself. If you do not, it will keep growing until it devours you. Remember that this is only one part of you, deep down, and that there is more to you than just him." Chris hoped that he would get through to Masaru, he knew that some were just never strong enough to accept what their shadow selves, but Masaru didn't seem like one of those people. Chris knew he was stronger than that.[/style] | [STYLE=background-color: #f7f3ec; width:130px; font-family: georgia; font-size: 13px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; letter-spacing: 2px; color: #5e412f; border-bottom: 1px solid #5e412f]word count[/style][STYLE=background-color: f7f3ec; width: 130px; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10px; text-align: center; color: #5e412f; height: 15px; padding-top: 5px]...[/style]

The unbearable feeling of darkness around him, and the feeling of his own darkness standing in front of him. Looming over him ready to take control of it all. He couldn’t leave it to take him, As he led there, wiped of all energy, he began to think about it. About what his shadow had said to him.
Was the beast truly right? The more he thought about it, the more he realized he had just been scared of the idea of the creature knowing him. Hell, knowing him better than he knew himself. Masaru couldn’t stand it, knowing someone else knew him better than he knew himself, but it wasn’t hard. He really didn’t know himself, how he truly felt. Maybe the shadow had been right. Maybe he was just that abused child, so afraid of failure he had wanted to end it. Or what if he was that cheerful boy just trying to get by with life? He didn’t even know himself.
Consciousness came to him suddenly as Chris shook him awake, crimson tinted eyes flying open and looking around completely panicked. His mind was still buzzing with his prior thoughts, and found himself pulled to his feet gently. His breath was panicked as he suddenly realized quite how exhausted he was after the shadow had all but drained his energy when it had gone all monster like. And when Chris began to speak, two things struck him. The first was that Chris had realized this was going to happen, but more importantly, he had seen Masaru’s shadow. Seen what he was deep down. And he was telling him to accept that? Accept that part of him?
” B-But he’s a part of me. Even if he’s a small part he’s still there. I know he is but what if that’s all I am? J-Just some broken remnant ,” Masaru managed to stutter out, even if in his heart he knew the answer, and it was breaking him. That was part of him. Probably the most true part of him that existed. Which was why he found himself stepping forward to look at the shadow in front of him. This was a part of him. Whether he liked it or not, it was there. And he had to accept it. To get out of this place and to find himself. He tentatively reached down and slid the glove off his hand, revealing that ugly scar.
” Y-Yeah. I suppose you are part of me. Part that I try to hide away to keep other people happy. To stop other people worrying about me. And that, that’s just not fair, is it? Stuffing away emotions, no matter what they are…” Masaru said, moving his gaze into the luminous yellow of his shadows, only to see it fade away. And in it’s place stood a creature that made Masaru’s blood freeze for a second, but it still provided a strange sense of home, or relief.
”The strength of heart required to face oneself has been made to manifest…Masaru has faced his other self. He has obtained the façade used to overcome life’s hardships, the Persona Kelpie ,” The shadows voice rang out one last time, but it felt less cold now. It felt more like it was his Persona‘s voice. Whatever that was. All but instantly the Kelpie before his eyes vanished, and he got struck with a wave of exhaustion and felt himself collapse again, arms instinctively crossing in front of him and preventing too much damage as he collided with his room‘s floor. God he was so tired.[/style]

He had never seen anyone accept their shadow before, he only knew the theory of it. He knew that if a human accepted their shadow, then they would be able to awaken their persona and be able to use it in the Abyss. He knew that many humans had been given the potential to awaken their Personas in the past, he never had much interest in them until now.
Masaru accepted the shadow as part of himself, and it revealed it's true form, that of his Persona, Kelpie of the Magician arcana. Soon Masaru had begun to faint, and Chris rushed to his side to grab him before he fell to the hard ground. "You did well," he said as he lifted the boy up and carried him out of the room. As Chris walked to the door, Masaru in his arms, the room began to vanish behind him, leaving no trace of the drawings that had once lined the walls.
He walked through the door, and it slammed shut and vanished, appearing as though there was never a door there to begin with. Chris had known that the Abyss would create chambers suited to it's occupants, but he hadn't realized that they would vanish the moment they left. It was an odd sensation, and he wondered if, had he been human, if he would even remember being in there, though that was most likely just his own imagination at work.
Chris sat Masaru down on the ground, his back against the wall. "Rest here for now, but don't move from this place, otherwise you may be lost," Chris warned. He straightened his back and brushed off his hands, then turned to continue down the passageway. "I'll be back soon."
