BACKGROUND:
In Norse mythology, Fenrir was one of the monster-children between the trickster, Loki, and the giantess, Angrboda. His siblings were Hel and Jormungand, both of which were cast from Asgard by Odin. Fenrir, though, was kept in Asgard at Odin's whim. However, the beast grew quickly, becoming strong and vicious, and it was intelligent enough to speak. Only one of Odin's sons, Tyr, stuck around the beast, opting to feed him.
In time, the gods came to truly fear the beast, as a prophecy claimed that the monster would fell one of their own. It was at that point that they decided that Fenrir needed to be chained, and they challenged its strength, only to have their chains shattered. The gods then approached the dwarves, who claimed that they could make something if they had six special components: The sound of a moving cat, a woman's beard, the roots of a mountain, a bear's sinew, a fish's breath, and the spit of a bird. The ribbon-like chain was called Gleipnir, and, when presented to Fenrir, the wolf was wary that trickey was afoot.
The beast refused to be bound in the chain, only budging when he demanded that one of the gods place his hand in Fenrir's mouth- a sign of good faith that, if he could not break the chains, he would be released. Tyr was the volunteer, and, when the gods refused to release the wolf, Fenrir bit the god's hand off. He would remain bound like that until the time of Ragnarok, when the wolf would break free and join in the battle against the gods. In that battle, the legends claim that Fenrir would consume Odin, and be slain by Vidar, one of Odin's many children.
This black god-eater symbolizes Kimiko's true self, and not the weakened state that she is in now. It represent the vengeful beast that directed the torture of her own mother, resembling Fenrir's consumption of Tyr's hand and, later, of Odin. Fenrir represents the madness, chaos, and ruthless side of the young lady, her maw ready to rend asunder those standing in her way.
* If you notice, there is no link to a picture for Fenrir. This is because I have yet to find a picture that I truly find appropriate for the god-eating wolf. Because of this, I shall give no picture, but, instead, shall give a description of the beast.
Fenrir, on all fours, stands at a full height of six feet and boasts a length of ten feet- not including the tail. Its pelt is a pure black, resembling the night, and appears bristly, as if one simply brushing against it would receive wounds. It's eyes are a cold gold, glowing in darkness. Its mouth is capable of opening rather wide, and contains row after row of jagged, blade-like teeth of gray. Its claws are also rather pronounced, extending a couple of inches past the wall of fur, they matching the beast's gray teeth.
** You may also notice that Fenrir's arcana does not match Kimiko's. This was brought up with Orion. By the time Kimiko will gain her Persona, she would have already gone through the motions and gotten back to her "normal" self, thus moving out of The Death and into The Moon. I'm simply saving myself an edit by putting it there now.
