Her father is a successful, 28 year old lawyer, while her mother is a now retired, 26 year old newspaper reporter turned housewife. The couple met when her mother was sent to interview her father about a prominent legal case and even from their first meeting the two had an obvious chemistry. They eventually got married only four years later and had Maria not long after, prompting her mother to retire early. Age 5; Maria begins to attend school, leaving her mother with a sudden abundance of free time. Her mother decides to open a small teahouse in Tokyo prefecture to take some of the spare time off of her hands. The business becomes very popular with the local population. Age 8; Maria's friends start to get constantly bullied at school. Maria, being rather shy, is never bullied herself because she always ends up running away. She wants to help her friends, but she doesn't believe that there's anything she could do that wouldn't make things worse. Age 13; Feeling that she's constantly failed her friends with her inability to help, Maria breaks off contact with them and becomes recluse. She soon takes up her mother's old hobby of archery to cope with the loneliness and shows a natural talent for the sport. Age 16; Maria's father dies, adding to her already building levels of mental stress and leaving her mother single, though her father's life insurance and pension keep them out of financial trouble as her mother starts opening the teahouse more often and hiring a small staff to keep up with it's growing popularity. Age 18; Maria enters her senior year and decides that she wants to learn how to help people to make up for her own weakness. Upon graduating, she enrolls in medical school and begins pursuing her future career as a nurse. Her mother's business is now a staple in the community. Age 21; Maria begins living in her own room on campus to cut down on travel costs. She meets a young man that she knew in passing from high school and the two begin dating shortly thereafter. Maria begins forgetting some of her childhood trauma and becoming less reclusive. Age 24; Maria has graduated from medical school and is currently working at a hospital in Tokyo prefecture. The young man she began dating proposed to her in the early months of summer and the two are now engaged. Age 25; On his way to visit her one afternoon in autumn, Maria's fiancee is involved in a car accident and is taken to the hospital she works at. Luckily, his injuries weren't serious, resulting in just a few broken ribs and some minor bleeding. Maria was on duty at the time and he was placed in her care in the hopes that it would raise her spirits and speed his recovery. Later that evening, he suddenly went into shock due to unforeseen internal injuries. The doctors were unable to get to him in time and there was nothing that Maria could do to help him. He died shortly after in his fiancee's care. Age 26; After the incident, Maria began to relapse into her reclusive state and became chronically depressive, her inability to help the people she cared about when they needed her providing a heavy strain on her mind. She was given an extended vacation by the hospital before eventually being transferred to the position of school nurse at Shigayomi High School in Okinawa prefecture in the hopes that a less stressful environment would help put her mind at ease.
