But ghosts, even the hardworking ones, make people feel uneasy. Yuu's employees feel as if he is a highly mistrustful person, and their opinions are not unfounded. Upon meeting someone for the first time, Yuu tends to form snap judgments and to label people so that they can be more easily organized within the filing cabinet that is his mind. Although he is amiable to everyone but his most detested foes, a gentle condescension clings about his person like water droplets to the inside of a used glass. He is not above changing his opinions about the people he meets, but it takes some effort to break out of a stereotype that Yuuki has assigned someone. Yuuki's opinions are flexible, but contained within certain parameters by his mistrustful nature.
Like his sister Asuka, he is a sarcastic and indifferent person. Yuu is blunt because he believes that honesty is the best policy, and he is distant because he has, at his core, a powerful fear of rejection and loss. One might guess how this affects his love life.
Towards those individuals who earn Yuuki's trust, he is loyal and protective. He enjoys caring for those close to him by playing mother to them (making them food, buying them trinkets, being someone to confide in). Since the death of his father and his past failure to protect his sister and mother, Yuuki has seen himself as something of the man of the house and is greatly concerned with living up to his father's image. This trait extends beyond the household and to Yuuki's dealings with all of his friends and acquaintances. [/ul]

HISTORY:
Yuuki was also at this time working for a man named Mr. Akiyama at the Kaneko Inn. He worked many jobs during this time, all around the Inn, and impressed Mr. Akiyama with his diligence and honesty. Yuuki was unimpressed with Mr. Akiyama, an unmarried man who, Yuuki felt, was going nowhere in life and lacked the instinct for "creation". Still, Mr. Akiyama taught Yuuki good business sense and taught him the virtues of categorizing people. Such a jaded technique of reading people was disgusting to Yuuki, and he was unable to appreciate its value until a few years later.
"Creation" was quickly becoming an important aspect of Yuuki's life. He loved to watch the changing of the seasons, to see the world create itself anew every several months. He loved to watch the moon change phases and to notice the position of the sun in the sky. At the age of 18, he began writing a novel. He had been writing short stories since he was 16, and his father had been helping him with them. This time, however, Yuuki told his father that he would not allow his father to see the manuscript until it was finished.
Yuuki's entire world shattered when his father died. He was still 18, and his manuscript remained unfinished. With the death of his father, he learned the power of the concepts of "Destruction" and "Impotence". He tried to comfort his sister and mother, but they seemed inconsolable. His sister was especially distressed, and Yuuki did not know how to help her. He admired her greatly when she seemed to piece herself back together. He was still sick with grief himself and unable to cope. He felt as though he should hide his sadness, since he was now "the man of the house". He put on a tough face, set a grim chin towards the future, and tried to take his father's place in the family.
But Yuuki had changed. He became distant and mistrustful, unable to open up to those around him as he had once been able to do. Some of his friends became worried. Some of them became offended by his new, indifferent nature and alienated themselves from him. Change, Yuuki saw, meant destruction. Yes it meant renewal and beauty, but it carried with it the sting of loss and the pain of rejection. There was nothing good about change, Yuuki decided; for him there was only value in stability and security.
A year later, Yuuki realized that there was something he could do to bring security and stability back into his home. He introduced his mother to Mr. Akiyama and convinced him to give his mother a position as Inn Manager. Mr. Akiyama was impressed by Ms. Ashton's beauty and by interpersonal skills. The two of them were, much to Yuuki's delight, soon married. Part of him felt as though he was betraying his father, but another part told him that he was honoring his father by providing for his mother and sister. Change is an opportunity, Yuuki remembered. He felt, at the time, as if he had made the most of his opportunity.
Yuuki has since then taken the surname Akiyama for himself, in order to promote family unity. Several months ago, his mother simply vanished from a shopping mall. Her purse was all that the police ever found of her. He has since been attempting, quite desperately, to involve himself in the case and to learn as much about it as he can from the patrons of the Inn. He is equally as shattered, inside, by the disappearance of his mother as he was by the death of his father. He feels useless, powerless, unable to protect the people who are dear to him. But, on the outside, he shows none of these feelings. He has intimated some of his distress to his sister, but tries to hide how deeply he is concerned in order to inspire confidence in her. Besides, he is much too busy managing the Kaneko Inn to allow emotions and simple change to impact his daily life.
He continues to write and to edit his (now-finished) manuscript that he began when he was 18. He wishes that he could quit his job as manager and find another job that would allow him more time to write. Yuuki's dream is to become a published author like his father was, and to inspire people the way that his father inspired him. But, he is much too busy managing the Kaneko Inn to allow dreams and simple change to impact his daily life.
He is simply too busy. [/ul][/size]
